Description
Guelder Rose stands as one of Britain’s most exquisite native shrubs
Attractive shrub both for its flowers, fruit and autumn foliage.
Guelder Rose, Viburnum opulus, stands as one of Britain’s most exquisite native shrubs, sought after for its frequent use in mixed country hedges. Its flowers possess a captivating charm, boasting a unique arrangement with a circle of delicate, smooth, star-shaped blooms that rise gracefully above a cluster of even smaller, bud-like flowers. As summer turns to autumn, the smaller flowers transform into luscious, blood-red fruits, adding to the splendour of the seasonal display.
The shrub’s large, three-lobed leaves, reminiscent of those found on maple trees (which typically have more lobes), undergo a transformation as well. As autumn arrives, they take on a captivating medley of pink, yellow, and red hues, influenced by the soil’s composition, blending together in an enchanting manner.
Guelder Rose can reach a height of approximately 5 meters, making it a substantial and eye-catching addition to the natural landscape well suited to smaller gardens.
