Maple (Acer)

Field Maple (Acer campestre) are a colourful and compact garden trees with an expected mature height of around 10m

The only native British maple, Field maple thrives in lime-rich soil. Its small leaves create a dappled light effect, and it’s often planted in urban areas due to its tolerance of air pollution and stunning autumn colours. While not picky about planting location or soil type, it grows best in a sunny spot.

Red Maple (Acer rubrum) are majestic specimen trees reaching 20m+

Red maples are known for their stunning display of red and orange flowers in early spring, which bloom on bare branches before the leaves emerge. Their winged seeds, adorned with pink membranes, add to their appeal. These trees grow upright, forming a canopy that is about half as wide as their height, often reaching a diameter of up to 20 meters. They make an excellent specimen tree, and in autumn, they showcase a brilliant mix of mottled red and orange leaves.
